Local communities will benefit from the Renewable Energy IPP Procurement programme. By May 2015, the renewable energy independent power producer procurement (REIPPP) programme had approved 79 wind, solar and hydro projects and asked each of them to contribute towards local community development through socio- economic and enterprise development, local ownership and local job creation. These requirements have to be fulfilled within speci radius of the project and oblige renewable energy companies to engage with the developmental opportunities and needs of communities around their project sites. Jasper Power is mandated to spend annually 1.5% of its revenue on Socio-Economic Development initiatives and 0.6% of its revenue on Enterprise Development initiatives. Through these initiatives Jasper Power has been actively involved in the communities of Postmasburg.

LEARN2DRIVE
The Learn2Drive programme incorporates both ED and SED initiatives. The community requested assistance in helping their youth to obtain their drivers' licences, to both empower and enable them to access possible work opportunities.
SANITATION
At the beginning of this year, as part of our Socio-Economic Development Project Initiative, Jasper Power commissioned Sanitech to install 35 dry sanitation toilets in the community of Daniëlskuil, situated within the Kgatelopele Municipal District.
HIGHMAST RETROFITTING
At the beginning of this year, Jasper Power started a community upgrade project, namely retrofitting Tsantsabane’s high-mast lighting with LED lights. After completing 33 high-mast lights in March this year, Jasper Power has added another 25 of these lights to their list for retrofitting.
POSTMASBURG DISTRICT HOSPITAL
The health of our local community is very important to Jasper Power. As a result, Jasper Power continues to spend money on assisting the Postmasburg Hospital. In 2013, Public Protector Thuli Mandonsela visited this hospital, located in the Northern Cape, as part of her national stakeholder dialogue programme.
At the time, she described the hospital as the worst she had seen, yet she commended the personnel as being “incredible people” who were working in those dire conditions.
